Kramer vs. Kramer

Hi all, I hope to come back and read your reactions to the film. It is quite powerful. This can lead towards an interesting discussion on the changing roles of parenthood as well as differences according to culture.

Hi. My assigned area was setting and important props. I think one of the important props is a telephone because at that time there wasn't cell phone, so people talked with the other people using telephone. Thanks to the telephone, Mr. Kramer and Mrs. Kramer could contact. That's why I thought telephone was important in this movie.

Hello, my assigned area is characters. Main characters are Mr. and Mrs. Kramer and Billy. We can see that all these characters, especially Mr. Kramer, grow up in the movie. At first, he didn't care about his family so much.
However, he noticed that home is as important as work. He realized how the child is precious for him. I think this story was made in order to tell that.

My assigned area is the plot structure. I think the first important scene is that Joanna leaves from Ted. As you know, this movie is started from here. The scene of making French toast is also important, because it shows us Ted is what kind of person at that time and how the relationship between Ted and Billy is. We can see this scene again, and that time Ted can make it. We can catch that their relationship is made good during life without Joanna. I think the climax is the scene of passed judgment which Joanna has the right to live with Billy. The demouement is that Joanna comes to a house and tells Ted she gives up to taking Billy to her house.
I can’t decide which is worse, Ted or Joanna. Both are bad in the case. I think in the most case of divorce, there are bad points each other. Ted forces Joanna to the feeling she think the only one way to help herself is leaving there. Joanna may try to work living with Ted and Billy, but she doesn’t do so. Though she decided to leave there by herself, she doesn’t work without husband’s approval? People have a right to pursue happiness each other, so it isn’t bad thing to divorce. It doesn’t matter they have any children or not, of course children get any stress, but it is sad for them to see their parents’ unhappy face. However, I am disappointed when I think whether forever love is or not.

Hi. My assigned area is setting. The time period is late 20th century. The place is home, Mr.Kramer's office and city(NY) etc. I think one of important props is love. It isn't an object, but we can see it between Mr.Kramer and Billy. Their strong relationship is based on love.

Hi!! My assigned area is sterotypes. I found some of them. Mrs. Kramer couldn't keep her job after marriage.
She asked "Why women can't have the same ambition as men?" I think they show streotipes of wives and husband in around the late 20th century.
The part I like in this movie is Mr. Kramer realized the importance of the son and love.

Hi. My assigned are is cinematography. I think there were many closeup shots. People were focused when they were speaking. Billy's room, the kitchen, or the hallway appeared many times and they were shot from various angle.

Hi! My assigned area is characters. In this movie, the growth of Mr.Kramer is showned mainly. He had a stereotype mind. But he understood wife's pain. He could change. Now parent's relation is changing. After I watched this movie, I thought I want to help my future wife. I could have wide view point.

Hi. My assigned are is cinematography.I found that the scean that Mr.Kramer and Billy were in the kithen, and they cooked french toast together. At first, they couldn't cook it. I think it expressed that their rerationship. Finally, they could cook it. At the same time, it shows their rerationship went well. I like this movie very much.

My assigned area was identigy dialogue.

"Sleep tight."
"Don't let the bedbags bite."
"See you in the morning light."

Billy had exact same dialogure with Joanna and Ted. It shows that Ted could take Joanna's role intead of her. Also this common phrase is so cute because of imaginary bedbags!
