The Little Prince, Chapters 1-7

One important quotation from these chapters reads as follows:

"But he would always answer, “That’s a hat.” Then I wouldn’t talk about boa constrictors or jungles or stars. I would put myself on his level and talk about bridge and golf and politics and neckties. And my grown-up was glad to know such a reasonable person."

In this passage, the narrator is using his drawing to see if the adult he is talking to is able to look at things imaginatively.  However, the narrator finds that nearly all adults respond with an adult's unimaginative perspective, and they are unable to see the drawing through a child's eyes.

After reading chapters 1-7 we could see many differences between the way adults and children look at the world.    In The Little Prince, what differences between adults and children are described?  Do you think the difference between adults and children is based solely on age, or is it based on something else?  What else have  you realize about this difference?  Please make a comment on this topic and relate it to your personal experience, if possible!

I think the difference of the way to think relates with realism of adults. They tend to be realism, and it changes their way to think. The reality they have prevents them from imagining something good.
I'm often said '' Don't think imaginatively, think anything on real.'' by parents. I don't like the way to think, so I can have sympacies.

I had an example of this difference that I told a few of you in class. Last weekend, my family went to Uji, and as we were walking across a bridge, my daughter saw the decorative accents on the bridge. She started pointing and saying *Green Cone!* She thought that it was like a green tea ice cream cone; however, I couldn't see it and wondered what she was talking about.

When I realized it, I felt that my mind is not so imaginative anymore, but that I'm lucky to see the world through her eyes sometimes! So, I agree that adults tend to be realistic and see just what is there, yet children can look at things imaginatively!

Hi!
After I read 1-21pages of "The Little Prince", I thought chilren had their own world. So the little prince could see sheep or elephant in a boa.
I am enjoying reading this book, next time I want to try to read it in French!

Hi! I'm Sho.

I read p1~p21. I could understand the concept of the Little Prince. Children all over the world are curious, so this book is popular all over the world. I enjoy this book so far.

Hi I'm Sho.

I misunderstood what I should do, so I rewrite.
This book tells us that the way to think is diffrent between children and adults. Children have much imagination, but adults tend to be realistic. Both of imagination and reality are important but I don't want to lose children's mind.

Hi, this is Yurie.
This book relates to the movie "Finding Neverland", i think. In both story, the key is the good imagination.

Hi Yurie,
That's great that you could find a connection between The Little Prince and the movie, Finding Neverland! Finding common themes and connections between the things you are studying is a powerful learning tool.
