MYTHOLOGY
As we previously studied, The Hobbit has some similarities to mythology. Today we will explore some Greco-Roman Myths and an artist's depiction of the myth. You will be assigned one of the myths below. Click on the link and read the information there; also, mouse over the painting to get more information on the artist's rendition of the myth.
Then, answer the following questions with your partner, and write down your answers on your own paper:
- What phenomenon does the myth attempt to explain?
- Who are the characters in the myth and how are they related to one another?
- Who painted the myth?
Pandora
Apollo pursuing Daphne
Diana and Endymion
Fall of Phaeton
The Corinthian Maid
Once you've finished reading and answering the questions, please tell me, and I'll direct you to more questions about your myth and painting. Finally, please write your final comment about this myth and/or the painting on your paper and turn it in.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
After completing the mythology activities, do not sit idly!! Please do one of the following:
- Write down an explanation of a Japanese myth OR create your own original myth!
- Read Christine's responses to your questions about wedding cakes. Leave her a comment, if you have something further to say or to thank her!
- Spend some time working on/researching your topic for next week's Hobbit presentation, or for your Country Research.
- Study your vocabulary cards, or work on this week's Hobbit reading assignment/questions.
